Ban pedal-less electric tricycles from the Strand
Andrew A.Santa MonicaProposed
Bike rental shops on the beach bike path are renting golf-cart-like vehicles for use on the Strand (Marvin Braude Bike Trail). These vehicles are wide, so they crowd out other users of the bike path. They have accelerators, not pedals, so they're more like cars than bikes. And, these vehicles, which can carry at least three adults, are heavy, which means that -- thanks to physics -- collisions are much more damaging to people and property than a bike crash. I thought these devices would already be banned under the existing rules, but based on their prevalence, I'm assuming there's some loophole. Let's close it.
