Member dues allow us to promise a political operation that never spams you, manipulates you, or sells your data. Your dues fund:
Persuading neighbors
We share our endorsed candidates' stories and visions directly with voters, through digital marketing, direct mail, and face-to-face conversations.

We organize virtual and in-person canvassing events — with a level of sophistication usually reserved for larger campaigns — to help our candidates win.

The pledge, your dues, and more.
How does the pledge work?
To be considered for an endorsement by Us, a candidate must first sign the pledge through our website. The pledge binds them to a single commitment: a lifetime limit on their years in elected office.
The pledge is a contract between the candidate, the members who fund them, and the candidates who will replace them. We do not expect endorsees to breach this contract, but if they do, Us will not only permanently ban them, but will also loudly call attention to their dishonesty.
Are you a left- or right-leaning organization?
We operate in non-partisan elections and partisan elections on the Democratic side.
We welcome members of all ideologies, but we will not work for the election of Republican candidates. In the future, we hope a conservative version of Us will emerge, as we believe that careerism is responsible for the moral collapse of the Republican Party.
To be clear, though, we will call out career politicians on the Democratic side and work to see them replaced by everyday Democrats who take the pledge. We are fighting career politicians — incumbents who treat elected office as an entitlement and refuse to share power — on all sides.
Who started Us?
The founder and CEO of Us is Andrew Allison. Andrew is an entrepreneur and democracy reform advocate.
In 2010, he founded Main Street Hub, a company that helped small businesses around the country grow and thrive. It employed more than 700 people before being acquired in 2018.
In 2020, Andrew founded and led a democracy reform campaign that succeeded in making Austin, Texas, the largest city in America to elect its mayor in open elections in presidential years and the second-largest city to adopt ranked-choice voting. In 2018, Andrew created Be a Corporate Citizen, a coalition of companies and nonprofits representing more than 4,000 employees that committed to providing their teams paid time off to vote in the midterm elections that year.
Previously, Andrew worked in the Democracy Program at the Brennan Center for Justice and on the speechwriting team for John Kerry's 2004 presidential campaign. Andrew holds a JD and an MBA from Stanford University and a BA from Yale University, and he lives in Santa Monica with his wife and their two daughters.
Where does my dues money go?
Most people are not prepared to mount a well-resourced, experienced campaign for office. They have not been planning their whole lives to run for office (and that's a good thing!). Your dues help us mount an independent campaign to support them: voter identification, persuasion, and mobilization. And, when they win, your dues help Us and our members provide tools that help them enact policies that will improve voters' lives.
Where do you operate?
We are launching in California, our home and the birthplace of so many ideas that have changed this country. We are starting with certain elections in Los Angeles County, but we welcome members from all over the state and country who want to bring forth a new public service. How do I qualify for a discounted membership?
Discounted memberships are funded by subscribers to our Plus membership plan and are available to members with demonstrated financial hardships. Such memberships are subject to availability.

What kind of organization are you?
We are a membership-driven political organization, registered as a California Non-profit Mutual Benefit Corporation and operating under Section 527 of the Internal Revenue Code. We do not coordinate with candidates, parties, or campaigns. We do not solicit funds for, or transfer funds to, any candidate committee.
Can I cancel?
Yes. Member dues are billed monthly or annually (depending on the membership plan you select), and you can cancel anytime. Each dues payment is a political donation to Us, and we report donations to the FEC as required.
